i’m not a fan of complaining about injuries, but this is starting to get a little out of hand.
so the red wings have 9 major injuries right now. that is half the team. lilja, franzen, cleary, helm, ericsson, kronwall, filpulla, williams, and now zetterberg. add in losing hossa, hudler and samuelsson in the off season, and you get the western conference’s 8th place team. however, this team, which is comprised of half of an ahl team, is only 6 points behind the 1st place team in the west, and have rattled off 4 straight wins. that has to prove something about the organization, especially since two of detroit’s consistant stars (datsyuk and lidstrom) are not exactly having career years offensivesly. it is going to be interesting to see how things go for the rest of the year. i’m not used to being worried about the wings making the playoffs, but if every game brings a new injury like it has lately, who knows who will be wearing the winged wheel by then.
